HEALTHCARE REFORM AND THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT

The LWV Committee on Health Care Reform was established in October 2012 following a League of Women Voters’ forum where attendees asked questions about the Affordable Care Act (ACA).  The questions were grouped into four categories: delivery of care, cost containment, quality of care and general information.

The committee has been gathering written material, done interviews with people who will be working to implement the Act, and has been privileged to have committee members who shared their own experience and knowledge with us.

This section of the LWV-RMA website is intended to provide answers to the areas of concern from that meeting.  Suffice it to say there is a lot of information on the subject of the Affordable Care Act—some of it quite complex.   Our two goals are:

  • To assist the reader to make decisions for themselves personally
  • To help the reader to respond to policies being proposed by our elected representatives at the three levels of government:  local, state and national.

Please feel free to give us your feedback through our Facebook page after you have read the material.

Please click on this link for the Table of Contents of relevant materials. The materials from our October 17, 2013 forum "The Affordable Care Act: Challenges in Local Implementation" are included on that page.
